Project Overview
Two needs, one seamless experience.
The main goal of PADLL was to make booking a surf photography session as painless as possible. The challenge was to design a single app for two types of user (surfers and creators), using a ‘late register’ strategy. Users can explore the spot map and the photographers’ portfolios without creating an account until the exact moment of checkout, which maximises conversion.

User Experience
Unpacking complexity through UX
With 40 hours allocated to the user experience phase, the focus was on information architecture. I designed parallel flows for surfers and creators, sharing as much logic and as many components as possible to speed up future development.
My contribution
- Research and strategy: user personas (surfer and creator) and competitor analysis in the creator economy.
- Information architecture: sitemap and concept for the two main flows (Surfer and Creator Flow).
- User journeys: mapping the user’s path from discovering a spot to receiving the photos.
- UX writing: tone of voice and strategic microcopy to build trust in the payment and cancellation flows.

Prototyping
Prototyping and functional validation
Before applying any visual layer, I built the app’s functional skeleton to validate the navigation logic. The aim was to make sure complex flows such as the ‘late register’ and switching between view modes (map and list) felt completely intuitive.
My contribution
- Structural wireflows: interactive flow diagrams detailing sign-up and onboarding for both profiles.
- Low-fidelity prototype: a clickable Figma link to test the information architecture with real users before moving on.
- Checkout validation: booking and payment flow structured and ready for Stripe integration.

UI Design
Interface design and design system
The second phase of the sprint (40 hours) focused on bringing the MVP to life. I developed a clean aesthetic that lets the creators’ photos take centre stage, backed by a robust design system built to keep every state of the app visually consistent.
My contribution
- Design system: a scalable component library and a complete style guide (type, colour, spacing).
- High-fidelity views: final design of every screen, including map exploration, creator profiles, photo galleries and the job management dashboard.
- Developer handoff: Figma files and specs prepared for an efficient React Native build.
A project in constant evolution. Turning the initial ideas into a tangible solution has been an exciting challenge. Now, with the MVP on the market, we’ll keep listening to users, learning and iterating to take the experience to the next level.
